In the last few days of break before my final semester at Columbia College Chicago begins, I’m being as lazy as I can. I’m still working, still running, and getting some last-minute chores done (ordering textbooks, cleaning out folders from last semester, writing a little bit, etc. etc.), but I’m also thinking about what the last three and a half years have held. If you’ve been following us for a little bit, you know that I’m big on reflection. So, in these last few days before the true beginning of the end, I can’t help but think back at all that Columbia has given me — besides the fact that I’ve created my own major, took both accounting and finance, and learned that there’s more out there that I can do well/enjoy outside of radio.
Wow, what a freakin year. As I went through pictures this time around, I found an astonishing amount of goofy selfies and embarrassing snapchat screenshots of my friends, so the fact that I was able to pull as many “normal” pictures as I’ve got in here is nothing short of a miracle. As I was writing this blog post last year, I knew there’d be a lot to talk about… but I never imagined to have the year shake out like it did. Anyway, here’s 2016 in somewhere around 6,000 words. Apologies, dear reader, for the prolonged absence, and I know I have some explaining to do… So I figured I’d do it in the form of a check-in on my New Years resolutions. Because believe it or not, I’ve been holding myself to them, and it’s been working in my favor so far. I think.
Anyway, here we go:
WHERE DID THE TIME GO?? Seems like just last week I was scrambling to get the February reflection together, and now it’s the 31st of March… and time to look back on this past month. As I’ve reflecting on my resolutions and find myself in committees for the college, I wish I would have put more time and thought into my resolutions. It’s not too late to change them, I guess, but there might be some edits next month. Anyway, here’s what I’ve been missing out on telling you —
There’s a lot of things going on in my life: school, SGA, running, CARA, drum corps, and teaching at Downers Grove South on the weekends. I absolutely love it, I definitely wouldn’t have it any other way, because I like being busy. But like everyone, it’s nice to have some downtime every once in awhile. I’ve had days off here and there, but it’s been about two months since I had two full days off in a row. Which is why I was so beyond over-the-moon when I was able to get this one off.
With only two full days left in Dublin, I decided to start to try and insert some more normality back into my life, and dragged my butt out of bed early to get a run in at 6am. All things considered (my ankle is still a bit sore, but definitely doing better), I was happy with my slow 10K. I haven’t really ran in about two and a half weeks, so I’ve gained a lot of my mile time back. As of right now, I am planning on running in the F3 Half Marathon this coming Saturday, and scheduling a doctor’s appointment as soon as I possibly can once I get back into the city.
After the run, we grabbed our typical breakfast, and then had class at Griffith College. The interesting thing about this school is that it used to be a jail, and I couldn’t help but imagine how many jokes the students there must make about it being a prison. The grounds were beautiful, though, and our speaker was incredibly inspiring.
January 6th. Even though I’m about a week late to have a “new year new me” post, I finally thought of a few resolutions that are better than “sit up straight” and “don’t suck.” After talking to some friends about their hopes for the year and how they want to make themselves better, I finally started to think about what I want to do to make my “Year in Review 2016” post the best one yet. Anyway, here’s the goals for this year:
